Art 1
emphasizes skills development and development of the creative
thought process. Each time a skill has been learned, students
will be encouraged to make creative applications of those
skills. This is an opportunity to express yourself visually while
learning to control art materials and develop art making skills. Our
exploration will include historical references in addition to hands
on practice.A variety of materials, techniques and processes will be
used. Some of the techniques, ideas and materials that may be
included are observational drawing, color theory, rendering,
perspective, design, composition, painting, sculpture and clay.
All
students will maintain a sketchbook (for all homework) and a
portfolio of completed projects (to monitor progress). Grading is
based on timely completion of assignments, creative application
of skills on projects, and a short biographical paper.
All students participate in these ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCES:
- Observation and reflection.
- Engaging in the creative process.
- Imaginative thinking through creative problem solving.
- Making choices/decisions to communicate ideas.
- Conceive and create original artwork.
- Analyze, interpret, evaluate, and judge artwork. Refining application of media.
This is an introductory course,
which explores the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. A variety of two
and three-dimensional media and techniques are investigated. Areas examined may
include, but are no limited to, drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration,
sculpture, and ceramics. Students work toward building a portfolio.
